Ethnologist Alban Bensa returns to the tribe where he has worked for 30 years. Upon the death of his main Kanak associate, Antoine, he discovers the notebooks and recordings Antoine left behind. This is a portrait of the modern history of New Caledonia (colonisation, revolts, difficulties on the road to independence), which surfaces in Antoine’s shadow.
